North Bohemia is the smallest region in the Czech Republic, known for its glass, jewellery and textile industry (in towns such as Jablonec nad Nisou, Liberec, Nový Bor or Kamenický Senov), remarkable nature sand-towns and rocks and medieval castles and ruins. This region is ideal for walking and cycling tours as well. The most popular castles are Bezdez, Frýdlant, Sychrov and others in Bohemian paradise. You can also recharge your batteries in traditional spa towns such as Teplice, where at Duchcov castle the famous lover Casanova lived, Kundratice, Libverda which are justly proud of their curable effects or you can just take a rest by walking on the well-marked trails in the deep forests. The fascinating sandstone formation of the Bohemian Paradise has a special place in the North Bohemia; this is indeed a paradise for walkers, climbers and mountaineers. Apart from hundreds of marked trails you will find many rock faces suitable for both beginners and professional climbers alike. Worth seeing are medieval castles and ruins such as Trosky, Valdstejn, Hrubá Skála, Humprecht. In the neighborhood of Bohemian paradise there is a fabulous town of Jicín, in its surroundings you can visit the Prachovské Skály rock formations, which cover an area of 187 hectares. Another sandstone rocks Labské Pískovce are located near the German border in the vicinity of Decín. Well known is Pravcice Gateway in Hrensko, which is the biggest natural bridge in Europe. You can take a stroll along romantic paths leading through canyons, rock walls and towns, which are typical of this area known also as Bohemian Saxon Switzerland. Decín is a historical town and an important port in this area. Another place which is deeply entrenched in the history of the Czech Republic is a small town of Terezín where a Jewish ghetto was founded during the WW II and where you can still see the cells and the historical exhibition. Not far from Terezín there is a town called Litomerice where agricultural exhibitions take place annually. The Jizerské and Luzické Mountains are suitable for downhill as well as cross-country skiing. There are good sport-centers in Bedrichov and Jested in the Jiizerské Mountains and Horní Svetlá and Chribská in the Luzické Mountains. Whether you are an art or a sports lover you will find something appealing to you in this part of the Czech Republic.
